Information for patients and carers

Medical Cannabis

‘Medical cannabis’ is a broad term for any sort of cannabis-based medicine used to relieve symptoms of illness.

If you have any questions about medical cannabis, please speak to your healthcare professional.

Conditions treated with medical cannabis

As of November 2019, two cannabis-based medicines, used to treat epilepsy and multiple sclerosis, have been approved for use by the NHS in England.

However, the use of medical cannabis in any form of treatment regimen will be solely at the discretion of your healthcare professional – not everyone will be suitable or will benefit from treatment with a cannabis-based product.
